The Wedding of Chanelle & Warren
Since my grandmother was in town for Thanksgiving, it was a perfect opportunity to take a trip to browse around for dresses. I invited my mom (Stephanie), sister/MOH (Sidnei), friend/bridesmaid (Liz), and my grandmother to go dress shopping. I had no intention of purchasing a dress that day, but I ended up finding “the one.” B&F was one of many stores that we visited and by far the best service. The associate we worked with was very patient and took her time to find out my style and taste.
Additionally, she was very kind to my grandmother. My grandmother is blind, so every dress I tried on, she had to touch and feel. Her reaction to the dress I selected was what I needed to make my decision. The gown was perfect, and I’m so grateful I picked it.
My wedding day was nothing short of perfect! Our ceremony was outside, and my husband and I were monitoring the weather for weeks. October weather can be hit or miss in Cincinnati, so we were hoping for the best. The week of the wedding was hot (the high 80s), so we were nervous it would be too hot. However, the day ended up being a perfect 75-degree sunny day. The ceremony took place at the Hotel Covington lawn area, and the reception was at the Madison Event Center in the Grande Ballroom. My husband and I decided to keep things traditional and not see each other on the day of the wedding. On the morning of the wedding, I woke up with butterflies in my stomach.
I was so nervous and excited at the same time. I couldn’t believe all the planning and preparation led up to this perfect day. I tried my best to soak up every moment, from ordering breakfast from room service to watching my bridesmaids get their makeup done. Every moment was special. I bonded with my sister and mother in law as well. They spent most of the day with me, and that was special. Having my bride squad, coordinators/friends, and family there made me feel so supported. I remember trying on my dress after getting my hair and makeup done and shedding a tear. I looked in the mirror and just gazed. I was about to be a wife! Walking with my sister up the stairs to meet my dad for our “first look” was a memorable moment.
I had not seen him all day, so it was a special moment to see his face. He took my hand, and all my nervousness went away. Walking out and seeing all my friends and family was surreal. I remember being in awe of the beautiful decor and locking eyes with my soon to be husband standing there looking fine as hell. The officiant gave a beautiful presentation. He incorporated moments we shared in our past discussions and eloquently tied them into the bible. I was most nervous about saying my vows, but that moment ended up being my favorite part. Expressing my love in front of 250 people wasn’t as scary as I thought.
Following the ceremony, we decided to have a private moment to view the reception area alone. We spent a lot of time with D2D figuring out our theme and colors. The hunter greens and coppers turned out fantastic. I was delighted with our decor. Doing a private moment was a last-minute decision, and I’m glad we did it. Post ceremony feeling gave us a sense of relief! At this point, the fun part was beginning, the party! We took pictures at George Rogers Park in Covington, KY, this was a lovely view of the City skyline.
The reception was excellent as well from the bridal party entrances to the jokes. Best man and Maid of honor speeches were comical and personal. We couldn’t have had a better wedding party! My father/daughter dance was one to remember. Incorporated in our dances were soca, dancehall, and reggae because my father is from Guyana, South America. Overall, despite some very minor mishaps, the wedding was the best day of our lives. If I could do it again, I would not change a thing!
